About

Sid Meier's Ace Patrol is a turn-based strategy game set in World War I. The player takes the role of a flight team with up to four pilots which has to fight for their nation. Combat takes place on a hex-based playing field and in each round, the player gives commands to the own squad. The commands range from basic movements (e.g. diving, climbing or banking) and special maneuvers like looping or spin. Besides outmaneuvering the enemy, important aspects to keep in mind are height, clouds (might hide enemies) and ground cannons. When pilots are shot down, they get hurt or into war imprisonment which means they can't be used for a few missions. This is a problem because there are no reinforcements and successes give experience points which are invested into upgrades (e.g. better accuracy), more maneuvers or better machines. The four campaigns (France, Britain, US and Germany) consist of randomly generated missions (either defending, attacking or special) and differ only in available machines and pilots.

The iOS version is only available as free demo which includes part of the British campaign; the rest (in addition to eight especially gifted pilots) has to be bought with in-game micro transactions. Also available is the option to shorten or skip pilot downtimes with real money. In the PC version, there are no micro-transactions and the option to manually save at any time.
