Sabres of Infinity

With echoes of the earlier and more protean Choice of Broadsides, this game deposits players in the polished boots of gentleman cavalry officers in Tierra's military invasion of the League of Antar. The world is a low-tech, low-magic fantasy one, and the game is played, as with Choice of Games' other offerings, by selecting from lists of options offered at the end of textual passages. These choices not only result in the character's generation, but ongoingly they steer their personal activities and decisions as well as orders issued to the fighting men under their command (should unit discipline and morale be sufficient for orders to be followed effectively!)

The story follows the interweaving fates of a trio of junior officers through from their early commission to the desperate conclusion of the military campaign, with other supporting roles being played by competent military men above and below them in rank as well as sometimes-foppish aristocrats whose superior position may only result from a privileged and moneyed background rather than any merit as effective leaders of men. The use of magic (or "bane") is touched upon, as are the positions of third-party nations and the overall justice of the war being fought.
