About
RYL is an MMORPG based upon player versus player (PVP) combat. Players can assume the role of Humans from the Kartefant Nation, Ak'kan from Merkhadia, or choose to become a member of God's Pirates - a mixed group of Humans & Ak'kan.
RYL stands out from other MMOs because of its skill-based system. Each archetype has a set of abilities unique to that class, and the differences are clearly defined, and highly visible. Combat is simplified and easy to learn, and is definitely action-oriented.
The PVP aspects revolve around earning fame by killing other players. This is extended to Guilds as well. Guild halls can be built and used as bases. But they can be attacked, too - and if they are lost, the fame penalty is huge. While the game has a clear emphasis on individuals, with the guilds, groups are important as well.
RYL also originally offered a $1 Million tournament - definitely making this game unique. However, the tourney was cancelled later (apparently due to cheating.) RYL also pioneered free online subscriptions funded by subsidies from marketing surveys sent periodically to those players who opted-in.
