About

Robot Wants Fishy is a short metroidvania style platforming game. The player controls a robot moving around in a single huge map, collecting power-ups and the end goal is to reach the fish in the bowl. The game features 8-bit style pixel graphics and sound effects.

The robot starts out without any abilities other than being able to move left and right. Collect the power-ups scattered around the map to gain abilities like throwing bombs, double jump, shield, swimming etc. The level is designed in such a way that collecting each power-up will give the player access to new parts of the map. For example you first collect a bomb power-up, by fighting enemies you can reach the shield power-up. The double jump allows the robot to reach the swim ability. The underwater section contains harpoon and bomb powerups and so forth.

The map is broken up into 6 sections accessed with the teleporter in the middle of the map. There are crab enemies, bats, slugs, robots, jelly fish and each sections contains a boss enemy which is bigger and takes more hits than the regular smaller enemies. There are transmatter computrons which act as check points, Dying will respawn the robot at the last check point and add 20 seconds to the overall time. Reaching the end goal in the fastest time is a subgoal of the game.

Other elements include stompers, boxes, turrets, green shards for extra time etc. Collect the gold key to open the gate to the fish. Blocks and boxes can be destroyed using the bomb power-up later in the game.
