About
RoboQuest is a mix of simple robot construction and a 3D shooter, aimed at children. The premise is that an evil witch who fails at magically creating a child of her own, has sent some of her minions to kidnap some children. She now keeps them imprisoned in her castle. The witch is also seen magically breaking up the protagonist's robot in the introduction scene, just because she can.
The game has two parts, first a time-limited 3D construction section, where the player has to rebuild the broken robot, selecting one from three simple pre-made plans (good/better/best) for use in the second part of the game. One of three difficulty levels is selected when entering the castle with the completed robot.
The witch's castle, made with DOOM-style graphics, has a five-level 3D maze in which the robot needs to navigate, find weapons, repair toolboxes/parts, locate healing power-ups, and find more fuel, keys for secret doors, spells to use against the witch and weapons to disable guards. There are ghosts or insects blocking the way. The character eventually needs to reach and defeat the witch to rescue the children.
The player can use a 1st-person view from a small monitor screen inside the robot, with status indicators surrounding it, or a 3rd-person fullscreen view, in the castle maze. Level transitions are a mix of pre-rendered 3D sequences in high resolution with enemies overlaid as 2D cartoon sprites.
