About
Rising Storm is an official total conversion of Red Orchestra 2: Heroes of Stalingrad; this time covering the Pacific War of WWII. All basic gameplay mechanics are identical to Red Orchestra 2 - in fact, the multiplayer mode of the base game can be accesses with Rising Storm, too. The only major differences are the absence of vehicles and singleplayer campaign. To imitate the conditions of the real war, there are differences between the two factions: while the US has more powerful automatic weapons and flame throwers, the Japanese can initiate a banzai attack which restricts the target abilities of the enemy (and gets more powerful when more team members take part), make land mines with their grenades and have a suicide attack without penalty.
Later the game received the two content patches Island Assault and Game of the Year Edition which added new maps and weapons. The most prominent additions were two new playing modes in addition to the old Territorium (conquering locations), Countdown (like Territorium without respawning) and team deathmatch: Search & Destroy (destroying objectives by planting an explosive) and the Multiplayer Campaign. The latter takes place on a strategy map: the winners of a battle decide if to attack another territory or defend which then results in another battle with a standard game mode. All owned territories give resources and the goal is to gather more than the enemy team in order to win. A campaign runs over multiple hours and players can drop in and out.
