About

Penetrator is a single-player and multiplayer horizontally scrolling shoot-'em-up where the objective is to guide a spacecraft through enemy-infested caverns while avoiding environmental hazards and hostile defenses.

The game unfolds across a series of caverns that scroll from right to left. The player pilots a ship that must avoid crashing into jagged ceilings and uneven terrain while defending against mounted gun emplacements, radar bases, and heat-seeking missiles. To survive, the craft is armed with two distinct weapons: a forward-firing laser for direct attacks and bombs that drop in an arc, allowing the destruction of ground-based defenses. Successful play requires balancing quick reflexes with careful positioning, as hazards often appear in close succession and demand precise timing.

Progression through the caverns is linear, with each section introducing denser layouts and faster enemy responses. The pacing echoes the style of Scramble, with a similarly high emphasis on memorization and repeated runs to learn patterns and master terrain.

A two-player alternating mode provides competitive score chasing, with each player taking turns at the controls. A level editor enables players to design custom cavern layouts and save them for later play.
