About

OutDrive is an arcade racing game with bright, neon graphics and an 80s soundtrack. The introduction sequence shows how a girl gets shot and is taken into a car by a man who wants to rescue her. It is an endless racing game where her heart is somehow tied to the performance of the car engine. As the car accelerates the speed ideally needs to stay in a green zone. Too slow and the girl dies because her heart stops, while going too fast overheats the engine, causing pain and suffering to the girl until she dies as well. The goal is to race and keep the girl alive as long as possible.

Parts of the environment are randomized for each session. Next to acceleration and steering, there is a separate button to activate drift and take sharp corners that way. Next to turns that can slow down the car, there are also roadblocks where a ramp needs to be used to bypass them. Other hazards are traffic coming from the opposite direction or crossing the road, tunnels and after a while an attack helicopter appears that shoots out pieces of the road that slow down the car. Whenever the car loses speed, the colours fade and the music slows down as well. The game has many different electronic music tracks based on the synthwave genre.
