About
Nosferatu: The Wrath of Malachi is a single-player first-person horror shooter. The player takes the role of James Patterson, a young man arriving late to his sister’s wedding at a remote castle in the mountains of Romania. Instead of a celebration, he discovers that his family and friends have been imprisoned by the castle’s master, Count Malachi, who has allied himself with vampires and other supernatural creatures. James must rescue his loved ones before midnight, when the Count plans to complete a ritual that will give him dominion over the living. Failure to free all the hostages in time will lead to their sacrifice and humanity’s downfall.
Gameplay blends first-person shooting with exploration and survival mechanics. Armed initially with only a sword and a single pistol, the player must scour the castle and its grounds for additional weapons such as muskets, shotguns, crossbows, and holy artifacts. Ammunition is scarce, forcing careful management of resources. Combat features fast, sudden encounters with a variety of enemies, including vampires, ghouls, hellhounds, and undead priests, each requiring different strategies to defeat. Stakes and crucifixes can repel or destroy certain foes, while firearms provide the stopping power needed against stronger enemies. A central objective is to locate and free the protagonist’s family members and companions scattered throughout the castle. The game employs a strict time limit: all prisoners must be freed before the stroke of midnight, creating constant tension and urgency.
One of the distinctive features is the castle’s layout, which is procedurally generated at the start of each new game. Rooms, corridors, and item placements change from playthrough to playthrough. Health management is crucial, as medical supplies are limited and enemies can ambush unexpectedly.
