About
Mute Crimson+ is an upgraded version of Mute Crimson, a retro-styled platformer inspired by NES action games. Compared to the original game it has seven stages instead of six and a new final boss as well as remade graphics and sound. The game is named after its distinctive color palette, featuring only greyscale and reds (and two yellow objects), with the reds mostly reserved for dangers and blood.
As an unnamed ninja you have to seek vengeance upon the invading monsters that have ravaged your village, tracking them through forests, caves, moonbases and alien dimensions. The plot is told through cutscenes in between stages, narrated in consciously poor english.
You have a sword and a double jump move, and can also climb walls or horizontal bars. There are plenty of hazards through the levels, including collapsing blocks, conveyor belts, timed lasers, bottomless pits, deadly alien spikes and rising lava. Anything will kill you in one hit, sending you back to the latest checkpoint. Enemies, other than bosses, will also die in one hit, but its the hazards that are your biggest problem.
Each stage is divided into several parts, with the last always ending in a tough boss battle. Bosses have predictable patterns and are only vulnerably temporarily. Other than the last boss, they all take three hits to kill.
Throughout the levels in tough to reach places are special coins, which will unlock various extras at every few ones collected out of the game's total 40, such as using the original version's graphics.
