About

Mordheim: City of the Damned is a single-player and multiplayer turn-based tactical strategy and role-playing game.

The story takes place in the ruined city of Mordheim, once a thriving settlement within the Warhammer Fantasy universe. After a comet struck the city, leaving it shattered and filled with fragments of the magical wyrdstone, warbands from across the land flock to fight for control. The player leads one of these groups, seeking fortune, power, or divine favor by scouring the ruins for resources while contending with rival factions, mutated horrors, and the deadly environment itself.

The core gameplay is structured around tactical skirmishes. Battles unfold on a gridless map where each unit’s movement and actions are governed by initiative order and points. Characters can attack, climb, ambush, or set traps, with the ruined city offering both opportunities for cover and risks such as collapsing structures or hidden enemies. Combat emphasizes line of sight, positioning, and resource management, as warbands are often outnumbered or forced into unpredictable encounters. Gameplay options include both single-player campaigns and online multiplayer, allowing human opponents to field their own warbands in competitive battles.

Warbands are highly customizable. Each member gains experience from battle, which can be spent to improve attributes, unlock skills, or specialize into advanced roles. Equipment looted from fallen enemies or scavenged in the city can be equipped to enhance performance, though injuries persist between missions. Warriors who suffer serious wounds may lose limbs, gain psychological afflictions, or even die permanently, shaping the long-term evolution of the squad.

Progression is tied to campaign objectives and faction-specific missions. Players must regularly deliver gathered wyrdstone to fulfill obligations, while balancing risk and reward when deciding how far to push each expedition. Over time, warbands grow into more formidable forces, but poor planning or defeat can cripple progress. Multiple factions are available, each with their own units, strengths, and weaknesses, ranging from mercenary soldiers to Sisters of Sigmar, Skaven clans, and Cults of Chaos.
