About

Mandragora: Whispers of the Witch Tree is a 2.5D action role-playing game (ARPG). It features a dark fantasy setting and incorporates elements of the Soulslike subgenre, with an emphasis on exploration, class-based combat, and character progression. The game is set in the fictional world of Faelduum and includes over 40 hours of gameplay, with support for a New Game Plus mode and difficulty scaling options.

The game takes place in Faelduum, a world on the brink of collapse due to a phenomenon known as Entropy. Players assume the role of an Inquisitor, a former agent of the King Priest, who turns against their order following a pivotal event. The narrative follows the protagonist’s journey through a range of hostile environments while encountering factions, characters, and lore tied to the Entropy crisis. The story is delivered through optional dialogues, environmental storytelling, and quest-based progression.

The game combines side-scrolling exploration with real-time combat. Players can select one of six distinct classes at the beginning of the game: Vanguard, Flameweaver, Spellbinder, Nightshade, Wyldwarden, and Vindicator. Each class features unique abilities and stat distributions tailored to different combat styles, including melee, ranged, and magic-based approaches.

Combat is stamina-based and includes mechanics such as dodging, parrying, and timed attacks. Players have access to assignable skills and spells, which can be obtained through character progression or by purchasing in-game items. Health recovery is managed via flasks and consumables, similar to systems found in other Soulslike titles.

The game includes a crafting system that allows players to create and upgrade equipment using materials found throughout the world. Progression is further supported by a skill tree containing hundreds of stat and ability upgrades. Character development is not locked to initial class choices, allowing for broad customization.

The game world is composed of interconnected regions with distinct visual and thematic elements. Exploration is facilitated by platforming mechanics and movement abilities such as ground-breaking stomps and grappling hooks, introducing metroidvania-like elements. Some areas are inaccessible until certain abilities are unlocked.

Checkpoints serve as respawn locations and fast travel nodes. Players can mark the map with icons to track incomplete areas or points of interest. While the fast travel system reduces navigational difficulty, it maintains accessibility for players prioritizing convenience. Hub Area and Systems

The Witch Tree serves as the central hub where players can interact with non-playable characters, upgrade shops, craft items, and undertake bounty missions. The hub evolves over time as new characters are introduced and services are expanded. The map system can also be enhanced via collectible fragments.
