About

Magicka 2 is a single-player and multiplayer action game with cooperative and role-playing elements. The story takes place in the world of Midgård, following the events of the original Magicka. The wizarding order has collapsed, and chaos spreads across the land. Only a handful of wizards remain, and the player steps into the role of one of these unpredictable sorcerers. Guided by Vlad, the player and up to three companions must prevent a prophecy of destruction, restoring balance by cutting a path through armies of monsters, cultists, and corrupted creatures.

Gameplay focuses on real-time spellcasting through a system of elemental combinations. The player has access to eight base elements, which can be queued together in sequences of up to five inputs. These combinations determine the effect of a spell, allowing for hundreds of possible attacks, defenses, and utility spells. Spells can be cast in multiple ways: projected forward, cast on the self, released in an area, or channeled through weapons. Experimentation is encouraged, with combinations producing both powerful effects and sometimes hazardous results.

Combat is chaotic and deliberately dangerous to allies. Friendly fire cannot be disabled, so cooperation requires precision and awareness. In multiplayer, this often leads to unpredictable interactions, such as accidentally freezing or burning teammates while trying to strike enemies. Players can revive fallen allies repeatedly, ensuring that battles remain fast-paced despite the constant threat of accidents. Enemy types include swarms of goblins, trolls, cultists, and elemental beasts, each requiring different tactics and spell use.

Progression is not tied to character levels but instead to equipment and spell mastery. Throughout the campaign, the player can find staffs, robes, and weapons that grant unique modifiers or abilities. These items adjust attributes like resistance, damage type, or spellcasting style.

The game can be played solo or cooperatively with up to four players both online and locally. The campaign is fully playable in co-op, and additional challenge modes offer wave-based encounters and survival objectives. Difficulty scales with the number of players, ensuring that groups face heavier resistance.
