About

Five kids have to retrieve stolen parts of their science fair project.

Lex Venture: A Crossword Caper is a word game with 37 stages. On each level the player must build paths on a grid making words with the letter tiles available at the top of the screen. The kid moves automatically on the field, collecting the items laying on the word paths. The objective is to retrieve the machine parts needed, listed at the bottom.

Only words with more than two letters are accepted. After laying the tiles on the grid, they turn green if it is a valid word. They can be transformed in to a path by clicking the submit button. After each path is created, a tab pops up on the side with the definition of the word, taken from the WordWeb dictionary.

There are two mini-games that appear between chapters. One is a hangman variation, where words have to be guessed with only 6 mistakes allowed. The other is a competition against the ninja thief for the parts on the field.

Power-ups are scattered on the grid. Balloons allow the kid to collect objects that are outside any path. Bombs destroy barriers and stun the enemies. The word creator makes the longest word possible with the letters available.

Some stages have enemies wandering about. The bully breaks parts of the path, dogs move the parts around the grid and ducks eat everything they see.
