About
Krebswelte is an action game, created as an entry into TIGSource's "Procedural Generation" competition. The player controls a mercenary who, on each level, must find a key and make his way to the exit. Each level is a random, chaotic assortment of squares; the mercenary can move around thanks to his incredible jumping abilities, and his gun which allows him to destroy walls. A gun has unlimited ammo, but it takes a while to reload when its clip runs out. Destroyed wall sections re-appear after a while.
The levels tend to contain dangers, both in the form of traps such as spikes and landmines, and enemies such as bats or charging bulls. It is possible to find money, both hidden in treasure chests, and falling out of killed enemies. Some levels contain a weapons vendor, who sells faster and more powerful guns, as well as bombs. Money can also be spent to hire additional mercenaries, who function as additional lives. The game is saved automatically when a level is exited.
All the levels in the game, the NPC portraits, and the weapon stats and appearances are generated procedurally. In the game's first release, these elements are always generated from the same seed, so every playthrough is identical. Version 1.2 of the game adds "random mode", where the seed is different for every playthrough and thus the game is different each time it is played.
