About

Korogashi Puzzle Katamari Damacy is a puzzle game based on the Katamari franchise, with mechanics reminiscent of Pac-Attack. It revolves around stacking items and it looks like a regular falling-block puzzle game, but the pieces do not appear automatically from the top of the screen. The game is played by holding the DSi sideways, with a double portrait view, and it is played entirely on the right side. On a roster with a size of six boxes horizontally, blocks and items such as fruits need to be dropped. They appear on the right side in a preview area where they are pushed up by the cousins with a steady pace. The player selects and drags them to the roster using the stylus and then they drop down from the chosen horizontal position automatically, stacking on top of the ones below.

Every dragged item has a certain form, like an L-shape or a square of four elements. Every now and then, the Prince appears. When he is dropped, he follows the route that has been created with blocks to eat up the fruits and other items, creating more space so everything stacks again. This is the same mechanic as in Pac-Attack. The remaining blocks that then form a full horizontal line disappear, Tetris-style. The player needs to arrange the items in such a way that a long, uninterrupted passage surrounded by blocks is created for the maximum score and keeping the roster empty.

Most levels have a time limit and a goal to get a certain amount of items. These items are rolled up by the Prince using a rolling ball or Katamari, which then grows in size, shown on the left screen.
