About
Insurgency is a online-only multiplayer shooter set in the Middle East. Rebels and government troops fight each other on the 15 maps which mostly focus on urban warfare. The realism is somewhere between Counter-Strike and Red Orchestra 2: Heroes of Stalingrad: there are no cross-hairs, no ammo counters and players usually die after one or two hits.
Unlike most contemporary multiplayer shooters, there are no experience points or unlocks. The player chooses between different classes and has ten "supply points" to buy extensions for the primary weapon and other gadgets, e.g. vest, a sniper attachment, flashlight or armor piercing ammo. The ten playing modes are divided into three categories which mainly differ regarding respawning: "Adversarial Matches" only give reinforcements when the team completes an objective, "Sustained Combat" has regular respawns until a certain objective is finished and in "Tactical Operation" there are no respawns at all. The objectives mostly about conquering/defending locations or destroying weapon caches, but there is also a Capture the Flag and VIP escort variant. Additionally there is a co-op mode in which players solve the usual objectives against bots.
