About

Hot Rod: American Street Drag is a racing game with a tie-in to Hot Rod magazine.

The game can be played in three ways. There's the Quick Race mode in which the player starts with a fully functioning, high performance, drag racer and races against the computer. There's a multiplayer mode, which can be played over the internet or via a LAN, where the player pits their skill against another person, and there's the career mode which is the main body of the game.

All the action takes place in a fictional city called Speedville. The objective of the game in career mode is to feature on the cover of Hot Rod magazine. This is achieved by winning the annual Hot Rod American Street Drag Tour, but to do this the player must first qualify in the sub-12 second category and having a custom paint job. Initially the player stars with $5000 and has to buy and renovate their car. Further cash is awarded for winning races, either as prize money in recognised events in street races where the prize is either cash or a spare part. Cars can be customised, accessorised, painted and repaired. Old parts and parts won in races can be sold for cash.

The game features the voice of Dave McClelland, an icon with his picture is on most screens and when clicked he can be heard providing an in-game tip.
