Friday Night Funkin'

Friday Night Funkin' is a rhythm game where the player battles against characters with mechanics similar to the Dance Dance Revolution. Arrows appear from the bottom of the screen and they need to be pressed when they pass the top area to keep the melody and the vocals (not containing words but just beeps and boops) going. A bar at the bottom of the screen shows who is currently winning and a score is provided. The characters usually take turns performing in the song. The game contains a story mode and a free play mode. In the story mode new characters are introduced regularly, each with their own set of songs.

The game has a 90's B-boy vibe. The social media platform TikTok is used extensively in the promotion of the game and communication with players. The game is open source and entirely free to play, but donations are encouraged. The game's songs are sold on Bandcamp with a name-your-price model. The PC version is also sold using that model.
