About

Freedom Fall is a 2D platformer with vertically-oriented levels where the character needs to progress downwards. The player controls a boy who escapes from a prison where he has been locked up. The different levels are designed by a princess who communicates with the character through messages painted in the background.

The levels are filled with traps and hazards such as fire, electricity, spikes, etc. The boy is able to move around, jump, climb and hang from ledges, slide down walls and perform wall jumps. A limited amount of bombs can be picked up to destroy passages. Levels contain bolts and cogs that can be converted into items in the workshop. They can be traded in for bombs, but can also be crafted into an ability that helps when jumping. There is a glider to float in the air, small wings to get a double jump, and a jetboard to navigate in the air more easily. These abilities can also be used with certain items in the environment and can be cycled quickly. The glider for instance allows you to use the draft of fire or air to reach higher areas. Red stones act as checkpoints and there is no limit to the amount of times the character can die.

Generally there are no enemies to defeat, mainly different types of traps to avoid. The boy is able to swim, but regularly needs to come back up for air. There are sections where the princess appears and you have the opportunity to beat her in a speedrun section. Some levels have bosses such as a shark or a dragon where the environment is used to defeat them. Many levels have short forking paths with an easy and a hard way. There are also small, harder to reach areas with additional items. There are global leaderboards and three optional conditions to fully complete a level, based on the completion time, the amount of cogs collected, and the amount of deaths.

A later update added a hard mode next to the default game mode along with two new levels: Bombard and Chainmoor.
