About

Firefox is a first-person shooter game based on the 1982 film (itself based on the 1977 novel), the plot of which revolves around an American pilot trying to steal the latest Soviet stealth fighter jet prototype, titular MiG-31 "Firefox" (fictional - not to be confused with real "Foxhound" interceptor), during the late stage of the Cold War.

The action starts with the player taking-off in the captured Firefox. You have a choice of three escape routes (of increasing distance and difficulty) or unlimited play. Shoot enemy MiGs, missiles, radar waves and warships - fly low to avoid detection or high to conserve fuel.

Apart from the sequences taken from the film and displayed as cutscenes, the game utilizes its unused footage (selected from over 20 hours filmed point-of-view from helicopters flying over Greenland and Scandinavia) for video background (recorded on LaserDisc). Enemy planes and missiles are layered over the video backdrop as smoothly scaling sprites.
