About

Fireflies is an arcade game for the Apple II.

The player controls a bug jar, and attempts to catch all the fireflies which flit about the screen. Fireflies are represented by single pixel dots which intermittently turn on and off as they move randomly about the screen. The player must attempt to guess their location, and correctly open their bug jar while over the firefly.

Each game starts with 5 fireflies on the screen, and if the player catches all the insects before time runs out, they advance to a level that starts with an additional 5 more than the previous challenge. The game ends after the 6th round which starts with 30 fireflies. If a firefly wanders off the screen, the player need not catch them.

Each round, a mutant killer firefly appears, which follows the player. It produces a deadly sting, but only stings right after it moves. If the player can catch this insect, they receive a large number of bonus points.
