About
Faery: Legends of Avalon is set in a fairy tale world in which fairies used to live with men. But unfortunately men stopped to believe in magic and the fairies retracted, which will inevitably cause the whole world to disappear. Now the player takes the role of an elf or a fairy to bring the magic back to the world.
During the course of the game visits four main areas, e.g. a ghost ship and a city on the back of a scarab, and meets a lot of people to talk to. During those conversations, the player can choose between different keyword replies (on a circle menu directly lifted from Mass Effect) which changes the reactions of the dialog partner. It also has direct influence on the quests, which often feature different methods to solve them: peacefully or with combat.
When combat is initiated the game switches to a separate fighting screen in which the two factions stand face to face in rows. Here every character has a certain amount of action points per round which are used to perform actions like attacking or using spells, but every character has a fixed position and can't be moved. The player doesn't have to fight alone; he has two comrades with him - NPCs he meets during the game. It is important to take the different immunities of enemies into consideration when choosing the fighting tactics and used NPCs. Just like in most RPGs, the player earns experience points and can upgrade his character's stats and abilities after level ups.
