About
Dustborn is an action-adventure game set in an alternate version of the United States during the year 2030, where the player controls Pax. Pax has vocal powers (vox), and is looking to escape Pacifica (California) and the Republic (the US). Along the way, she and her friends, Noam, Sai, and Theo, meet new and old companions, as they pose as a touring band on their way to Canada with sensitive cargo. The game features a diverse cast of characters, regarding gender, orientation, religious beliefs, and backgrounds.
The player largely navigates through an interactive story, but Dustborn also includes combat and rhythm segments. The player can use their vocal powers during dialogue and skippable combat encounters. In combat, they may also be combined with other companions' powers. During the rhythm segments, the game features original songs as the party has to prove their "touring band" status to authority figures. The game also features a handful of quick time events.
A comic book-inspired style is present throughout the game. Between its chapters ("issues", referring to comic book issues), the player is also exposed to a short set of comic panels, detailing their story during each chapter and showing how many players made the same choices.
