About

Dragonborne is an action-adventure and can be seen as a mix of games like The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening (overworld), Pokémon (fight screens) and Final Fantasy Adventure / Mystic Quest (gameplay elements).

You play as Kris, son of the legendary dragon slayer Kurtis, to find his father who was reported missing. Unfortunately it's also the season where all the dragons awake and cause the appearance of monsters in the world - an exceptionally bad time for a dragon slayer to disappear. On his quest Kris will travel through an expansive overworld, help the inhabitants with their problems, fight against the Dragontooth Gang and various monsters, solve riddles in dungeons and last but not least defeat several dragons.

One of the key elements to progress is finding dragon scales - the world contains several areas locked by seals that can only be broken with the corresponding amount of scales. These can be acquired in dungeons, by solving quests or in various minigames.

The turn-based fight system is quite basic: You can attack, cast one of up to three magic spells, drink a potion or use a special attack of your weapon. It is missing the elements of a classical RPG though because there is no experience system, so fights will only serve to open doors, be able to enter an area or gain a story relevant item. Healing potions can be bought at stores, and because the enemies don't drop any coins the biggest source of income is selling caught fish. The character's stats will still improve over time by getting more powerful armor and weapons during the story.

In the end of the game you will get a rank, based on various parameters such as collected items (crystals, golden dragon statues) and deaths.
