About

Dragon Ball Z: Burst Limit is a single-player and multiplayer 3D fighting game. The game follows the story arcs of the Dragon Ball Z anime, covering the Saiyan, Frieza, and Cell sagas. Players take control of both heroes and villains as they relive major battles, beginning with the arrival of Raditz and continuing through to the struggle against Perfect Cell. Each scenario is presented through cinematic introductions and cut-scenes that frame the battles, giving players the perspective of characters on either side of the conflict.

Combat takes place in fully 3D arenas where players move freely, perform melee and ki-based attacks, and unleash powerful special moves faithful to the series. Matches focus on chaining combos, reading an opponent’s actions, and managing the Ki gauge, which fuels energy-based abilities. Players can also trigger transformations, such as going Super Saiyan, to alter fighting styles and increase attack power. Stages feature interactive elements that respond to the intensity of the battle, with fighters able to crash into the ground or walls during heavy exchanges.

A distinctive feature introduced in this entry is the “Drama Piece” system. These are context-sensitive cut-ins that trigger automatically during a fight, often depending on the character’s health or situation. They depict allies intervening or dramatic shifts in momentum, which can grant temporary buffs such as health recovery, defensive boosts, or counterattacks. While these sequences add spectacle and authenticity to the adaptation of the anime, they also affect the flow of combat by creating sudden tactical changes.

Several gameplay modes are included. Z-Chronicles is the main story mode, guiding players through a series of battles that recreate the arcs of the show, complete with dialogue and animated sequences. Starting with three available fighters, progressing through Z-Chronicles gradually unlocks the full roster of twenty-one characters. Versus mode allows local or online matches, letting players battle friends or opponents worldwide. Online play includes ranked and player matches, with Battle Points earned based on performance.

Additional modes extend replay value. Training mode offers tutorials and practice tools for mastering advanced techniques. The Trial modes consist of three challenges: Survival mode, in which the player attempts to defeat up to one hundred consecutive opponents; Time Attack, where ten enemies must be beaten as quickly as possible; and Battle Point trials, which grade performance based on combos, efficiency, and move variety.
