About

Devil May Cry 4: Refrain is an adaptation of Devil May Cry 4 for mobile devices. The story is the same as its console counterpart: it follows Nero as he tries to capture Dante, the main protagonist of previous games, after the latter seemingly kills Sanctus, The High Priest of the Order of the Sword. Instead of being one whole story like on consoles, Nero's and Dante's parts were made into two separate campaigns, with Dante's part being added as an update some time after the game's release.

The gameplay largely resembles its console counterpart, though it's been severely simplified for touchscreen controls (e.g. there is an option to combine melee and ranged attacks into one button that will automatically switch between attacks depending on how far an enemy is from the player). Graphics and detail were also watered down: many areas are much emptier and simpler compared to the console game. The game also has a skill system, which allows players to have custom skill sets with maximum of 3 skills.

Like the console version, the game awards Red Orbs and Proud Souls after completing a mission, though in this port Red Orbs are used as a score system and Proud Souls are used for awarding skills depending on how many the player has collected. Dante has only 3 combat styles instead of the usual 4, with the Trickster style being absent.
