Dead Reset

Dead Reset is an interactive full-motion-video (FMV) horror game that combines cinematic presentation with branching narrative elements. The title follows a science-fiction horror premise and continues Wales Interactive's catalogue of FMV projects.

Players assume the role of Cole Mason, a former surgeon who awakens inside an underwater research facility. Guided by security personnel, he is compelled to perform emergency surgery on a patient carrying an aggressive parasite. The operation triggers a lethal outbreak, after which Mason repeatedly reawakens at earlier points, trapped in a time loop. Progress depends on surviving encounters, altering choices, and uncovering the reasons behind the loop and the origin of the creature.

Gameplay is centered on filmed sequences with frequent decision points. Most scenes present two timed dialogue or action options, while a Streamer Mode removes timers to allow audience participation. A tracker logs unlocked scenes, endings, deaths, and the status of supporting characters. There are no traditional puzzles or free movement; advancement comes from selecting responses and viewing alternative footage across multiple runs. The production includes approximately 339 individual scenes and four distinct endings.

The cast consists of six main characters—Cole, Fearne, Weir, Cooper, Slade, and Magson—portrayed by British actors. Performances focus on suspenseful exchanges and shifting alliances, while practical gore effects depict attacks by the shape-shifting parasite. The narrative tone mixes survival horror with elements of dark comedy derived from the repeating-death premise.
