About
Command & Conquer 3: Kane's Wrath is the official expansion pack for Command & Conquer 3: Tiberium Wars.
The expansion adds a new singleplayer campaign with Kane in the center, boasting 13 new missions which spread over 20 years: from the rebirth of the Brotherhood of Nod following the events of Firestorm, through the Third Tiberium War and beyond. As with previous Tiberium universe expansion packs, the campaign mode of Kane's Wrath does not give the player the option to choose missions to play, and is entirely linear.
Aside from new units, structures, upgrades and support powers for the existing factions, there are 6 more armies to choose from. They are subfactions of the existing 3 armies, and they specialize in some aspects of their respective base arsenals but are lacking in others, and have units, upgrades and support powers which are exclusive to them, or are modified from their original versions. They are:
- Steel Talons (GDI) - focuses on ground vehicles, features walkers based on those from Tiberian Sun and garrisonable harvesters and artillery, but loses half the infantry roster and any EMP capabilities
- ZOCOM (GDI) - features improved sonic weapons that is present in more units, but loses artillery
- Black Hand (Nod) - focuses on massing and boosting infantry and has improved flame weapons, but has no aircraft or stealth abilities
- Marked of Kane (Nod) - features cyborg infantry with native EMP weaponry, but lack some ground vehicle options
- Reaper-17 (Scrin) - focus on Tiberium-based weaponry in most units and force fields, but lack a commando unit and most aircraft
- Traveler-59 (Scrin) - feature improved mind control units and more mobile infantry, but lose their main battle tank
Epic units are a key addition to every arsenal, requiring special factories to be built. These are massive, expensive, slow but powerful vehicles which can permanently garrison a limited number of infantry squads as additional weapons (or, in the case of engineer-type units, repair pods). Each of these epic units has a different special ability - the GDI MARV can quickly harvest large quantities of Tiberium, the Nod Redeemer can temporarily cause enemy units in a large area to fire on each other, and the Scrin Eradicator Hexapod is the only one that can garrison a commando-type unit (Mastermind or Prodigy) to self-teleport in moderate distances.
An exclusive addition to the Windows version of this expansion is the Global Conquest mode, which is a modified version of the War of the Ring mode from The Lord of the Rings: The Battle for Middle-earth II, albeit available in singleplayer only. The player chooses to play as GDI, Nod or Scrin (with access to their subfactions' arsenals), and starts with randomly placed bases on the world map. Each faction has a different secondary objective - GDI requires one third of the map under their bases' control, Nod causes unrest to 24 cities, and the Scrin aim to build 9 Threshold Towers. Otherwise, the game can be won by eliminating the other two factions. In a turn-based gameplay, all armies build bases, train and move task forces, and cast support powers on each other or on cities which form the basis of the secondary objectives. Battles can be resolved automatically or in the usual real-time mode with the starting units and structures matching the ones in that area of the turn-based map. Bases can be upgraded in tiers, and third-tier ones can either build a superweapon, an epic unit factory, or a high-tier support power structure that is otherwise unseen in the game.
