Cinders

Cinders is a visual novel, retelling an alternate version of the Cinderella fairy tale. The player takes the role of Cinder, living with her stepmother and two stepsisters, however unlike the original fairy tale, it is up to the player to decide the fate of Cinders by selecting choices that may or may not affect the overall progress of the story and final outcome.

The story is largely told through text with backgrounds, drawings of the characters and small animations. There are lesser and more important choices that eventually lead to four different endings. Based on certain choices up to eight achievements can be unlocked as well. Unlike a game like The Walking Dead, it is not shown when choices affect the outcome. Instead, a branch appears in the top right corner along with a sound when characters react based on previous choices. The game has a map with different locations to visit and not everything has to be completed in an entirely linear order. The game includes a rewind function to go back, but this cannot be used to alter the important choices.
