About
Chimera Beast is a horizontally-scrolling shooter with a grotesque biological theme, which was scheduled for release in arcades in 1993 but cancelled after location testing. The player controls a monster called an "Eater", which can absorb the power and abilities of other creatures by consuming them; it starts as a microorganism in the first stage and grows larger throughout each stage of the game.
The Eater can fire projectiles and charged shots to destroy enemies, as well as extend its mouth out to consume them. Consuming enemies will restore the Eater's health, and also mutate the Eater and cause it to assume a variety of different forms each with different combat characteristics such as different types of bullets, or appendages that act as shields. There are seven stages depicting the Eater growing large enough to destroy a planet, and two different endings depending on the player's actions during the final battle.
The game was never officially released in any region, but various bootlegs of the location test version exist. A "final" version was playable at Game Center Mikado in Takadanobaba, Japan in 2013 in what was described as a "second location test", but is otherwise unavailable.
