About
Castle of the Winds is a top-down, turn-based, role-playing game set in a fantasy world. In Part I, your home is destroyed, and a mystical amulet stolen from the ruins. You delve into a nearby mine to find a clue as to the culprit, then travel to the town of Bjarnarhaven to track them down in the ruins of a fortress. In Part II, you travel to the town of Crossroads to explore the Castle of the Winds and defeat Surtur.
While it takes significant inspiration from classical roguelikes, this game does not enforce perma-death. The player can simply reload an older saved game on death. The game supports both melee and magical combat, and also has a good variety of utility spells. Items have both weight and bulk, and packs are limited in both, creating limitations in your ability to retrieve and sell every item in the dungeon.
Castle of the Winds was distributed as Shareware. The shareware version contains Part I (A Question of Vengeance); Part II (Lifthransir's Bane) was only available to registered users.
