Slinky is a magically-animated puppet who dreams of becoming the greatest acrobat in the circus. The player, controlling both Slinky and parts of the stage, must grab, spin, and throw him around, popping balloons, and attempting to throw him through the ring of fire at the top of each stage. There are various challenges in each stage, such as popping all of the balloons, finding hidden stars, and completing the stage without letting Slinky perish. Completing challenges earns Slinky more fans, increasing his rank, and unlocking bonus material.

There is also a level editor for creating custom stages to play. CarneyVale Showtime is also the spiritual successor to the 2007 prototype game Wiip.
