About
Captain Cosmo is a 1 - 4 player side-scrolling arcade game starring Captain Cosmo, hero of the universe, who is out to save the world from the Munchies that escaped from the zoo.
In the Atari 8-bit version, each level contains yellow Munchies which flit rapidly about the level. The player can walk along the ground or fly through the air to avoid these., or they can shoot them with their somanizer ray. This turns the Munchy green, after which it can be safely picked up and carried back to the zoo. If the player returns all of the Munchies, they complete the level, and advance to the next challenge with more Munchies. Later levels introduce the villains Devious Dan and Spacey Stacey in a UFO, who slowly gain the ability to fly and fire at Captain Cosmo over the course of 100 levels. Both Dan and Stacey will release re-captured Munchies from the zoo if given the chance.
The MSX version follows a similar formula, but has added variety that is introduced more quickly over 20 skill levels. This level may be selected during play. At higher difficulties, the Munchies are aided by several vaguely humanoid aliens that can also walk, fly or shoot. There may be UFOs which either act as another obstacle, or in later stages can abduct already re-captured Munchies from the zoo. And there are swarms of insects that leave behind impenetrable trails, just adding to the chaos.
