About

Black Box Chess is a single player chess-based puzzle game. It is one of a package of games produced by The Code Zone. Games from this package were used, in various combinations, in around twenty different game compilation packages.

This game combines elements of both Chess and Minesweeper. The player is presented with a standard 8x8 chessboard to the right of which are a few chess pieces. On the board are question marks which show the position in which the pieces can be placed. By clicking on the empty squares the player can determine how many pieces attack that square when all the chessmen are correctly positioned - however each enquiry costs the player points. The object of the game is to solve the puzzle while retaining as high a score as possible.

The game is entirely mouse controlled. It is played in a window which cannot be re-sized. The game has sound, different styles of board, and in-game help screens.
