About

Bio Force Ape is an unreleased side-scrolling platform beat-em-up action game which was originally slated for release on the NES/Famicom around 1992. A mad scientist has kidnapped a family, and the family's pet chimpanzee drinks an experimental potion which transforms him into an ape beastman who sets off to rescue them. The ape is a wrestling fan and uses wrestling moves like grapples and piledrivers in addition to standard punches and kicks to fight a variety of strange enemies like sumo wrestlers, breakdancers, and men in various kinds of animal suits. The ape has only a single life, but can collect food items to recover health.

The game was shown at the 1991 Summer CES and previewed in several contemporary magazines, most notably Nintendo Power which featured several previews. It was ultimately cancelled in April 1992, and never released in any region. A Japanese build from mid-1991 was discovered and released unofficially in April 2011, which is fully playable and includes three stages: a city warehouse stage with fast-moving platforms, an underground stage with mine-cart segments, and a sprawling laboratory stage. After completing all three stages, this version of the game ranks the player's completion time.
