Arcanists

Arcanists is an online multiplayer battle game in which hordes of wizards battle it out to prove their magical supremacy. Quite similarly to the Worms series, the players are placed on a two-dimensional plane and take turns moving and fighting each other with spells that can also destroy the terrain. Unlike Worms, however, each spell is related to a certain spell book, and the player chooses the spells they would like to use before entering the fray. A new player will only have access to the Book of Flame and the Arcane Book, but upon beating other players in ranked matches, they will earn wands, which they can use to unlock new spells to use. Having a certain number of spells in one book will allow the player to use more powerful spells from the same book, which encourages a certain level of specialization from the player. Such specialization is also encouraged with the ability to summon a familiar—if a player has every spell from one book, they will be able to sacrifice some of their health to summon a familiar related to that book, which provides other related benefits. With a wide variety of spells and books to choose from, half the battle of Arcanists is finding one's niche—the rest is strategy.
