A Book of Beasts and Buddies

A Book of Beasts and Buddies is a short adventure game set in a fantasy world. In this game, you play as an explorer who is writing a logbook about all the magical and mythical beasts encountered in the wild. To progress in this task, you need to go to different habitats and make friends with the creatures that you find. Interaction with the beasts is done through a selection of four different options that will elicit different reactions based on the creature, situation and the items you are carrying. You gain new items by choosing specific actions and getting to know the creatures throughout the game. Every habitat (along with its respective creature) can be found in your logbook. The game is completed once you have befriended every beast in the game and obtained every piece of information about them in the logbook.

This game was designed for the A Game By Its Cover (AGBIC) game jam. The aim of the game jam was to create a game based upon a previously existing concept. The chosen concept that inspired A Book of Beasts and Buddies was originally based on the 2018 entry: Bestiary Logbook.
