About

3059 is a roguelike game set in a science fiction scenario. After you create your avatar you are placed onto the planet of Esperenza, which is one of the many planets humankind is slowly preparing for colonization. Your adventure starts in a small settlement, which can provide you with basic weaponry and equipment, along with some possible companions and quests. From this starting base you are able to explore the vast areas of the planet, encounter non-player-characters including alien lifeforms and solve quests.

Much like original Rogue-variants the game is presented in what could be called ASCII-style graphics, but utilizes a lot of non-standard characters to depict the game world and its inhabitants. Graphics display will change according to the built-in day-night cycle, with night mode showing a green-on-black monochrome version of the game world, along with decreasing the field of view. Sound includes basic sound FX and MIDI music. Game elements like weapons, armor, enemies, quests, landscapes etc are randomly generated, player characters are persistent until deleted, meaning they are able to play in 'their' world indefinitely. Detailed statistics are kept for each character (e.g. time played, no. of monsters killed, no. of quests solved, etc). The game world has no apparent boundary (technical boundaries not known) and features complete real-time freedom of movement (within game rules). There is no definite goal or ending to work towards, thus it can be classified as an incarnation of an open-world, open-ended role playing game.
